Pan Africanism refers to the desire for African unity that tries to cultivate the spirit of brotherhood among the black people in the new world. It is also known as the Pan African Movement or Black Solidarity.
Origin of Pan Africanism
Pan Africanism originated in America and the Caribbean islands in the early 20th century. The movement was formed by the black people initially to stop slave trade and to create unity among Africans in the diaspora.
Pan Africanism was founded by Bladen and later on it was actuated by William Sylvester, who convened the first Pan Africanist conference. During this conference, there were few representatives from Africa but the majority came from America.
Purpose of Pan Africanism
The Pan Africanist spirit was meant to bring Africans together, to fight against slavery, and to build a sense of unity and brotherhood among black people across the world.
